Hi all,

I know this may be strechting the limits of synth-diy's charter a bit, but..

I'm designing a digital sequencer for my modular which uses a 2k x 8bit
SRAM chip (2016, I think) and A/D and D/A converters. The part that
has me consfused is how to display the address number on a 4-digit
LED readout. It will be an 11-bit binary number, and I've only
seen BCD-to-seven-segment decoders, not something to convert big binary
numbers to multi-digit displays. There will be a total of 2048 note
locations (addresses), so I want to show what address number (note
number) I'm on with an LED display. Anyone have a clue? I'm not much
with digital design; maybe there's an obvious answer? I thought about
using a sep. BCD counter which would be in synch with the sequencer's
clock signal, so that it would display the right address number. I think
there might be a problem with this in that I would want to control the
total number of addresses in the "song loop" anywhere from 1 to 2048.
I know how to make this happen on the address counters, but I don't
know how to simultaneously do it on the BCD counter. Again, maybe the
answer's obvious. Hmmm....
