I'm assuming you have a J-wire Pro-One like mine...
One thing that can happen (according to a friend of mine who used to be a
synth tech) is that the bar that all the J-wires touch when played can
become corroded and uneven, causing the J-wires to make lousy contact. I'm
trying to remember his solution; I think it was something like sanding the
busbar very gently with fine sandpaper (but don't try anything until I ask
him again!).
My Pro-One takes quite a bit longer to get crummy, but it does need
cleaning every once in a while. In fact it needs one right now.
