Bernie himself defending himself

First point: Given that Mr. Hutchins has gone on record as saying my
money is indeed welcome, I intend to send him some. I think my
unauthorized copy of the PCC has some pages missing and some loss from
the photocopying process -- a new copy certainly isn't likely to be
worse and may be better. In any case I owe Mr. Hutchins for the
material. I assume he didn't post prices, etc. for legal reasons
(Cornell email address and all that) so I'll ask for them by snail
mail.

Second point: You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.
Mr Hutchins's insinuations regarding the motives and credulity of the
people who've circulated the PCC are for the most part unfounded. It
was no "friend of a friend" who reported non-responsiveness; it was
several people who reported to the list their firsthand experience in
trying and failing to get a copy of the PCC from Mr. Hutchins -- and
NO people who reported success in same.

Getting it "for free" isn't the issue. The cost of photocopying is
comparable to the cost of buying -- especially if you figure how much
the time you spend arguing with the photocopier is worth.

The few who've advocated keeping this material in "free" circulation
by covert and dishonest means deserve Mr. Hutchins's contempt; the
majority who simply acted under what he claims is a misconception do
not.

Third point: My feeling is that having a selection of Electronotes
circuits freely available on the web is about the best and cheapest
advertising Mr Hutchins could get. If he can't put up a web page of
his own, he could do worse than to give permission for a few circuits
to be put up on someone else's page along with information about
ordering the PCC.
