What I found was that the metal shaft ones are really smooth (the type I
put in Mark Pulver's 921) because of either the precision of the metal
tolerances or in that they have balls bearings.

They have the exact same pot with a plastic shaft that is much harder to
turn. While it is easier to not jostle and change your settings with this
type, I don't like using them for these reasons:

1. They cannot be spun around quick enough for the style in which I like to
patch. It gets tedious going wound and round.

2. Metal shafts are stronger and less prone to snapping off.

3. Plastic shafts are softer and the set screw from the knob makes a deeper
indentation that both "locates" a place on the shaft and cause an offset
with the knob that makes it turn in a less circular, slightly-off fashion.
