 I came across this sort of thing in a japanese psu ( not a synth but a
travel transformer) ... fine until it went wrong and failed to switch
over when connected to 240v mains! ( the relay contacts had welded )
I'd say that anyone running such stuff on high voltage mains (i.e
european) should consider hard wiring it as you're unlikely to do much
damage if you change continents and forget to change it back wheras the
other failure mode is a definate no no!
