mixer electronics Q

Greetings, I'd like to let you all know first off that I'm learning a ton
from reading this list. :) And now for my question, which may seem
off-topic, but you guys are the most knowledgable group of people in
audio elecronics so here goes:
I just bought a new DJ mixer (Numark dm1260x), and while I'm happy with
it given what I paid, I have a beef. Each channel has bass/mid/treble
faders and cut switches. Great! Only problem, the cut switches don't do
nearly enough for me. When I cut the high end, I want it _cut_, not
diminished. So, before I attack this thing with a screwdriver and void my
warranty, does anybody have a gut feel for whether it would be possible
to modify the circuit to give me more cut? Or did they do the best they
could, and it's impossible to filter more severely?
And on a related note, I now have an old, cheap, evil Realistic (Radio
Shack) mixer with 2 mic, 2 phono, and 1 tape, all of which I would like
to convert to line-level, since I can't afford a 1202 right now. I can
read schematics and have begun the arduous process of starting at the PCB
and trying to draw a schematic... does anybody have any pointers for how
a phono or mic fader's circuit might be modified to accept and deliver
line-level?
Thanks, and here's hoping plans for a cheap DIY project come down the
pipe, some of us can't afford to be Fat Men, let alone ASM-1 commanders.
