Shephard-generator - what is that ?

A Shepard generator puts out a set of voltages that are out of phase in
such a way as to create a sensation of endlessly rising or falling.  It
can be used with VCOs to create a very dizzying effect.  For a good
example of this, check out Yellow Magic Orchestra's BGM album - the track
"Loom".
