Since this is being designed from the ground up, what's to keep you from
using 2 controllers per parameter, one as MSB and one as LSB?  That way,
you'd have a coarse/fine adjustment (if there is one on the synth already,
such as for the oscillator tuning) as well as a more compact and
conventional way to store patches.
