an idea ...

  This would be awesome.

I can code in C - but, from what I've seen, coding for uProc. is a whole
  different ball game...
Therefore, I'm afraid I couldn't help much, but I'd love to see the final
  code!
(Let me know if I'm wrong - I'd love to contribute)

This could wind up being like e-macs. The original firmware code gets
written, distributed, and everyone with coding skills starts adding crazy
new features and distributing them on the net!

A great feature would be MIDI interfacing so that it could receive either
sysex - or, maybe even better - continuous controller - so that CC 64
would control parameter 64, etc... - that way it could do double duty as
a MIDI->cv interface. Not to mention the ease of sending and storing
patches via sequencer. The only problem is that CC messages only have a 0
to 127 range, and you'd probably want to store at least a full 8 bit
value (0 to 255) for each parameter.

Another cool idea would be that it could do double duty as a sequencer by
stepping through programs (like the Emu programmer). This makes a good
case for having a lot of memory locations - because, to do sequencing,
you'd take one program copy it over 8 times and change just two or three
of the settings from one to the next...

...This way we could hack up our knob-loaded sequencers, give them
"brains" and use them as programmers...

Regardless, you can count me as "on board" for this project. This is an
area that I have no experience working with and I'd love to see it done
from a purely educational point of view.

There's a lot to work out - such as the classic program-able synth
dilemma - "how do we show knobs with values that differ from the
  programmer's values?"

I've always thought the best solution is having an LED next to each knob
that lights up when a knob differs from the program. It would also be
need to have a LED/LCD to display the current program number.

...Just throwing some ideas around - so who wants to build it?
