when one needs triggers from gates?

Hi, i've recently built a modular synth and the envelope generator requires
a trigger input- but since I am using Roland sequencers as the control they
only provide a CV and gate output. So for now I am using an envelope
follower-trigger extractor circuit I whipped up just to get the thing
goijg. It accepts the gate and generates a pulse from a 555 timer IC. But
its unreliability has been a little annoying. Are there any good
suggestions someone might have to get a trigger from a gate? I've got the
Electronotes and was looking for something like this but could not find
what I was looking for. Any suggestions would be great.

        Oh, I tried using 4001 CMOS but through experimentation with values
and stuff couldn't avoid false triggeringand the likes.
