There's one nice module in the Serge catalogue that does
*voltage controlled* pulse division.
I built a similar thing for my Modular:
Incoming pulses are differentiated and the resulting peaks are
full-wave rectified. This way I get pulses with the double frequency.
Each pulse now injects a fixed charge amount into an integrator,
resulting in a staircase waveform at the integrator output.
With a control voltage I can set the threshold when the integrator
is discharged, so I have voltage control over the division factor.
After the integrator, there's a flipflop that compensates for the
frequency doubling at the input and thus provides a 50 per cent
duty cycle for every division factor.
The module does a good job, both as a subharmonic generator
for VCOs (think of a trautonium ...), and as a clock divider for
sequencers, arpeggiators etc.
(Don't know what's inside the Serge; so this is only a description
of my own module.)
