And I agree completely with all of THAT!
I just didn't want someone to harbor a pretention that a VCO is a VCO and
it appeared that a 8038 was being considered as a "real" VCO with no
misgivings. It has many. To the experimenter it is a lot of fun. I even
recommend getting two of them, as the FM stuff you can do is really neat.
BUT, considering that it "gets hot", needs another exp to lin conv chip,
has offsets, freq dependant pulse width, etc, etc it just seemed like a lot
of work to wrestle it into a "standard" musical design.
I still have a bench function generator that I use all the time based
around an 8038.
I had to add a gain stage for the sine wave, but it works well.
Remember-
No one is very creative when they are pissed that the chip they thought
would do this or that... doesn't.
