Hi List -
OK, KRL got back to me today.
They did inductance tests and these were their findings;
Regular molded 2K (538Q) : 350 uHenries
Non-inductive molded 2K (N538Q) : 66-72 uHenries
Coated 1K (C-2AQ) - 2 in series for a 2K resistance: 38-42 uHenries
I don't know much about inductance, but we can see that the C-2AQ has about
1/10 the inductance of the ones I got. It also turns out that that the samples
they sent me of the N538Q's were manufactured incorrectly and were actually
538Q's - so it's no wonder they weren't any better.
They're sending me a sample C-2AQ (1K). I'll test this, and if it works
I'll... ....Hmmm, I'm not sure what I'll do, I'm an impatient guy, so I'd
like to just order a batch of **2K**, C-2AQ-type resistors - but I think it
would be better to just order a sample first - even if it means a two week
wait. I can't imagine why a 2K would fail while a 1K works, but I don't feel
like dropping another $150 on bogus parts. The C-2AQ's, are cheaper (as long
as I get 1% and not .5%) so it'll be like $100 for 25.
Anyway, that's where we stand. Looks like we've got a part and a supplier, just
a matter of time. If anyone's feeling compulsive and daring and wants to just
call 'em up and order a batch of 2K, C-2AQ-type tempcos - go ahead. If they
work I'll take 10 :)
- Chris
