They may not be rare yet but I hear they've been discontinued.

I've just built two 2045 based filters modules for my modular synth using a
pcb kit sold by Maplin in the UK (which is now also discontinued).
The filters are OTA based, with exponential voltage control of frequency and
vc resonance, 2 and 4 pole outputs, and an independent 2 input, 3 cv,
vca/mixer section on the chip too.
Soundwise they're more similar to Curtis filters a la Pro-One than a Moog,
but they have a nice response to increasing resonance - no instant input
obscuring whistle like some filters...

Still, I don't know if I'd buy 50. I paid about 10 ukp each for the chips, so
if they're selling for a good bit less tham this they might make a good buy.
