Scopes and DMMs and the Audity!

I was purchased a DMM for my use while I worked at Roland. It was a B&K
Precision 2834.
It had:
4.5 digits
Volts
Ohms
continuity
Diode check
Amps (to 10)
Freq (to 100khz)
Period (in us and ms)
Dbm
Temp C or F
Peak hold
Data hold
Relative measurements
A lot...!
I still use it, however several years ago, the conductive rubber touch pad
(just like keyboard contacts nowadays)
started to wear out and despite cleanings started getting worse and worse.
I called B&K Precision to order more contact sheets and was told that they
were out of production and would have no more. This only 1 or 2 years after
they ceased to manufacture the unit! (What ever happened to keeping parts
around for seven years?)
It's now pretty awful. Getting to the resistance measurement setting is a
process by which I either hurt my finger or I have to use a screwdriver
just to push in the button to make contact.
I need a new DMM and I won't be buying B& K Precision this time.
I did learn a lesson however-
I recently purchased a really nice triple voltage programmable power
supply (even has RS-232 in, as if I need this)
and it uses touch pad contacts just like the B&K. I immediately called the
company and ordered two of the pads for replacement in the coming years.
A 450.00 piece of test equipment shouldn't be disabled by a 1 dollar piece
of rubber.
************************ Audity ***********************
Emu Audity is at my house now! The ONLY one!
Big and blue and all SSM!
It has only 8 voice boards though I have access to the PCB artwork and am
being asked to make more.
Now after selling all my SSM chips, I find that I need to find more!
I will possibly have to buy up bad Prophet 5's for parts...!
