Yes, you are perfectly right, the base should not be connected to VCC
(a very wild guess, hastily based on the connection
of some other optocouplers) :|

Only thing left then would be to decrease the value of the pullup
resistor, like Joachim suggested.

Or change optocoupler...(In my own midi-cv, I plan to use a PC900
which is >> 100 times faster than a CNY-17)
