i thought i knew it all... (cr-8000 triggering mods)

i mentioned recently that i'm trying to trigger my cr-8000's sounds from a
sacrificial 606. i studied the 606 schem's for 2 months before i got the 606
last week, and i thought i had it all down, as far as what to do, but
apparantly i'm quite wrong.
my first thought was to make a duplicate copy of the trigger out section for
the toms (on the upper right corner of page 5 in the 606 schems), with the
AN6912 quad comparator and a couple of transisitors. i thought you could
take the regular trigger "pulse" from the CPU and the common trigger into
the quad comp that i'm using the exact same way as the toms are set up, but
it's not working.
i then tried to duplicate some of the stuff that's going on before each
sound generator, but that didn't work. i don't even really know what's going
on with all that stuff there (like around Q's 14 and 15 for the bass drum).
i've poked around a bit and found that there are some trigger signals going
around, but not what i need. in some spots, like right at pin 18 on the CPU,
i'll get 2 pulses for each step on the 606, but only 1 when the bass drum
hits on that particular step. this completely surprised me cuz i originall
thought that there wouldn't be any pulses on any steps, only when a kick is
programmed on that particular note. i'm wondering if if this is a bit
complicated, cuz i'm starting to think this is a bit over my limited
technological ability.
if you might be able to explain this part out. please e-mail me. i would
like to know more about what's going on in this machine as far as triggering
goes, but the do it yourselfer in me wants to figure this out myself. if you
might be able to drop a hint to set me on the right direction, i would
appreciated it.
thanx (sorry for the x0x, but it is being used for sacrificial purposes though),
