Yeah... but check this site out:

I't really great SID site.
The SID chip was the first "synth" I programmed. Personally I learned the chip
from the "Commodore 64 Programmer's Reference Guide" which among other things
contained data sheets of the specific chips being used and to total schematic
over the 64.
Guess if I spent some time reading between the lines :)
This chip where even able to do synthezied voice...
Maybe it's time for a DIY project in order to allow the SID chip to be MIDI
controlable... the external hardware can be kept down to a very minimum if done
rigth (a TTL buffer, a optocoupler, some resistors and somewhere to pick a
clock for the serial interface). I think a live display of parameters could be
done easily. Of course you can insert a external signal into it and you can
also get two (rougth) CV inputs!!!
It's almost so simple that I start rigth away... :)
Hmm... am I getting carried away or what.... :)
Hmm... who knows, maybe it's time for vintage home computers??
Did you know that you can combine the output waveforms of a VCO in order to get
*odd* waveforms? You may also get the VCO stuck.... a well...
