OSCar refurb...

Hi,
just thought that I'd keep those interested up to date. I started
on the refurbishment of my OSCar last night - thanks to all of the tips
about removing old sockets! I started on the MIDI daughter-board first
(the PCB is less crowded than the voice-generation PCB) and successfully
replaced the cheapo IC sockets with turned-pin types. I started on
replacing the ribbon cable that connects the `control-PCB' with the
voice-generation PCB - also giving the board a good clean up with
Isopropanol (someone had obviously had a go at soldering the board before
me as there were flux residues all over the place.). So, tonight I'll
start on replacing the sockets on the main voice-generation board,
cleaning up as I go.

Looking at the label on the EPROM (it says something like OMv2) I guess
that I have the `version 2' MIDI firmware. I'll see if I can take a copy
of it (I don't know how big the EPROM is though)

So far, so good!

john..
