If we had chips like CEM or SSM in sourface mount packages, this
might be an improovement (if we also could master the pcb technology
for SMD, which is not easy!).
But with the discrete SMD stuff that is available now, we couldn't get
smaller than with ordinary CEM/SSM, IMO.
