Actually, I took for granted that you would start out with an inverting
op-amp, and add the zener clipper as described in Gene Stopp's terrific
post.

Probably, yes, and anode-to-anode would work equally well.

BTW, I have an uuencoded GIF of the circuit, if anyone wants it
