Another stupid pot question...

   I seem to answer many pot questions.  Should I start charging for the 
service?  ;)
   The answer is....it will depend on the type of knob you buy.  If the 
knob is not flatted (and I mean needs the half moon shaped shaft instead 
of the full round shaft) then it will have set screws in the side that 
you can tighten to firmly attach it to the shaft.
   All you need is a small allen wrench and you'll be set.  Most knobs 
have two set screws in the side (an X and Y).  Just tighten them down 
onto the pot shaft and away you go.
   The downside to this is that it is possible for them to work loose and 
start slipping.  This isn't good for knobs that show a position index 
because it can be difficult to align the pointer with the graphics when 
tightening down the screws.  That's why most pointer knobs need the 
flatted shaft pots (which you can buy fairly easily).
