WALSH functions

Hello,
is there anybody knowing the Walsh functions and the way they can be used
in a synthesizer.
As far as I know, these functions are two state functions (-1 +1).
They form a basis for other periodic functions (like Fourier functions).
They can be easily derived from the output of a binary counter with XOR gates.
The question is : are they interesting for sound synthesis ?
