Well, fooling around with 3 VCOs and the filter was probably the trick :)

There was this little software called SAM which could do this... I still have 
it!

I must fool around with it some day...

I have also seen such a beast... it's not seriously difficult... if worse I 
just
hang a 6850 of the Aux port...

8 bit...

Gate input is certainly possible... lot's of unused inputs...

Semi-unpredictable... the unpredictable part is due to a documentation fault
of the chip design....
