Counters for sequencers

Hi DIY -
A while ago there was a discussion here about using the CD4024 + CD4067 for
16-stage sequencing. I'm wondering why no one brought up the idea of using the
CD40193 4-bit counter instead of the 4024. Seems like it's MADE for the job. It
has Up and Down counter inputs as well as presetting "jam" inputs (with a
write-enable) for those programming buttons that every cool sequencer (er,
programmer) has... I just discovered this chip and I just wanted to see if any
of you better informed folks knew why it would might be a bad choice for this
application...
The 40193 is synchronous, not ripple, but that's better in this case, isn't it?
- Thanks,
Chris
