In his component list, Gene wrote :

I thought that electrolytics degraded chemically if a continuous DC 
potential "the wrong way round" was applied to them. If that's true, 
shouldn't a 1uf unpolarised cap be built from two 2uf caps in series (with 
reversed connections as shown below) rather than 0.47's in parallel. If 
there's any constant DC voltage, then parallel connection would eventually 
blow one of them up wouldn't it ?
