Well, it's possible to do AM with a VCA, and it's possible to make a
VCA out of a CA3080 plus some other parts. But a CA3080 is not a VCA
by itself. Also the mic would need to go through some kind of pre-amp
to bring it up to a level that will control the VCA, which would
probably be a gain of 5 above "line level", so you'd need a pretty hot
pre-amp.
As for the sound, if you hold a note on the synth and sing into the
mic, you'd get a kind of "chopped" sound, like when you talk through a
spinning fan.

Is it possible to use a 3080A OTA to do some type of AM? for example...
Send a Synth through the noninverting input and connect a mike and sing
through the current controlled gain input?
also what would it sound like?
