If the problem with the analog switches is the switch's on resistance,
you may want to try paralleling a few of them to reduce it. I would
stay away from relays as they have contact bounce, longer switching
time, and take more current to drive. And not necessarily cheaper
either.
Maybe a few of you should put together a spec on how you want the
unit to work. There are a few alternative techniques to design
these things that might satisfy everyone. Myself, I've not noticed
problems with existing designs - maybe I'm too much into building
and not enough into "using".
