For the same reason, I once experimented with using an IRFD120 FET
as a fast switch. It can easily handle 1A continuously, but since
FETs are inherently capacitive devices, the gate signal edges would
couple into the sawtooth, resulting in large spikes. A series gate
resistance helps a little, but there will still be some ringing.

Personally, I prefer the slow discharge method (1...5 us), using
a standard 4066 controlled by a fixed-time mono-stable, but that's
just my opinion. :)
