Most comparators have open collector outputs, which means great
falling edges, lousy rising edges.

Many different pulse wave output designs have been employed through
the years. Do they really sound different?

ARP 2600     uA741/LM301 with series diode
ARP Odyssey  CD40xx gate
ARP Quadra   LM339 comparator
Chroma       LM393 comparator
Matrix-12    TL084 with series diode
etc.
