I have had way more trouble with synths and vintage electronics where someone used a battery holder, and the battery simply did not last as long. It might be due to oxidization or other factors. In addition, I've repaired synths where someone's job of tucking away a battery holder broke loose, and caused more damage.<br>

The soldered batteries are guaranteed to last 10 years, and easily will last 40 years. Just think of it like the valve adjustment on your internal combustion engine: It's a pain to disassemble the valve cover and make those adjustments, but proper maintenance requires that it be done periodically.<br>
<br>
These old synths deserve some maintenance every decade or so.<br>
