Artists complain that AI takes lots of energy to create an image, but in fact the lightbulb above their worksurface uses far more energy during the long time it takes them to paint or draw something similar.</div>

There was a lot of energy used early on during training the LLMs, but that is generally done now and work is more on improving how the datasets are used, for example to stop them being misused as tends to make press headlines.</div>

I was vaguely aware of AI's energy, water and natural resource<br>
plundering. But there was a lot I didn't know, like companies exploiting<br>
thousands in third-world countries to train, refine answers and manually<br>
filter out abhorrent responses.<br>

I think it's cool that it can help me program faster, but so would me<br>
learning to be a better programmer.<br>
