Correct on the first point, wrong on the second. Almost every data centre in Europe uses closed loop cooling so once the system is filled there is little further usage. </div>

Data centers do consume a huge amount of energy and water. So do many other things: transport, heating, food. One big difference is that with AI most people don't see or struggle to quantify the value it generates. To be honest, so do academics. AI is still
a huge, global gamble, both economically and resource-wise. We're not sure yet how or where the return on investment will come from, or who will benefit. There will be loosers as well as winners, and I don't think it's unreasonable for people to have concerns,
especially since most of us didn't have a say in any of this. I do think it's unfair to dismiss those concerns as moralistically and psychologically rooted, and therefore not worth discussing objectively.</p>
