I am building the one from <a href="http://www.ucapps.de">www.ucapps.de</a> (based on the midibox
platform). You can get the expensive ICs (maxim DACs)  as free
samples direct from maxim.<br>
The mid-to-cv design they have on the site allows for 10 gates and 8 pitch CVs, all fully configurable.<br>
Mine is 3/4 built and cost me less than $50. The priciest part is the
1/4" jacks and rack case (if you choose to buld one that way).<br>
