<DIV>I use an old variable supply that I salvaged from a breadboard that I
bought at a flea market. It provides + 3 to 15 volts, -3 to 15 volts, and a
+5 volt supply. The three terminal regulators are pretty indestructable. I
have shorted lines many a time with out damaging the supply. I've only
replaced the negative regulator and that was due to corrosion and not due to
failure. I have built these simple supplies many times, Though the variable is
relatively new to my bench (years instead of decades).</DIV>

<DIV>After saying all that. I only use +12 volts for my modules. I make small
modules. The only transformer I can get easily that fits in my standard box
doesn't have the headroom to power a +15 volt supply. The +12 volt supply means
no problems with CMOS. (Except when I have to use 74HC chips. Then I put a
small (100 mA) 5 volt regulator in each module that needs it.</DIV>
