create modules that use laser diodes as taps into the signal path. The
module would present an open optical output on it's face. Using a probe
connected to any modulation input it would be possible to touch the
probe to one of these and immediately pick up the signal for use. You would
need a circuit to output CV at the end of the probe, but I think that the
advantage of being able to rapidly patch without any coupling artifacts would be
worth it. Proximity might also control amplitude depending on the transducer

reverse is probably less desirable because of ambient light pickup,
however it would be interesting in a live situation. The artist
aims a modulated laser at their instrument or some on-stage target and
has the ability to move it rapidly between
