Eccentric London based inventor Tony Bassett runs Number One Electronics and<BR>
has been creating Theremins and other pieces of exotic electronica since<BR>
1962. Tony will talk about his work, demonstrate how to create a theremin<BR>
from scratch and for a finale turn one of the audience members into a human<BR>
Theremin and play a tune on them! <BR>
<BR>
Performance:<BR>
Musician Miss Hypnotique will perform a eclectic set including Rachmaninoff<BR>
and the Star Trek theme tune on a traditional Theremin.<BR>

A documentary about the amazing life of Leon Theremin, inventor of the<BR>
theremin, the electronic musical instrument so beloved of 50s sci-fi movie<BR>
music. Theremin amazed America with his instrument until his kidnapping by<BR>
Soviet agents in the mid-30s. Upon his release from a labor camp, he worked<BR>
on surveillance devices for the KGB. Almost 60 years later , he is brought<BR>
back to America for a touching reunion with his friends and colleagues.<BR>
<BR>
Performance:<BR>
The Evening will culminate with a performance by Bruce Woolley and The Radio<BR>
Science Orchestra - who have previously collaborated with Lydia Kavina, the<BR>
world's leading Thereminvox player and great niece of Leo Theremin. Before<BR>
conceiving The Radio Science Orchestra Bruce's writing credits include Video<BR>
Killed the Radio Star for Buggles and Grace Jones' Slave to the Rhythm.<BR>
Using amongst others a Theremin, Moogs and a midi Theremin they will perform<BR>
a set specially put together for the event featuring 50s sci-fi soundtracks,<BR>
original compositions and a tribute to Delia Derbyshire from the BBC<BR>
Radiophonic Workshop who had been invited to speak at the event but died on<BR>
3rd July 2001.<BR>
