Yes in the digital world you have the Z-plane and the unit circle,
which is just the warped y axis of the s-plane.
Design your filter in the "old" analogue domain, then run the transfer
function through the bilinear Z transform to turn it into a digital
filter.

Under exam conditions, obviously!
