You should be able to determine the output side by hooking a 220R across
the colored wires and scoping the voltage on either side, with reference to
the ground wire...

I mean technically it's just supposed to be a current loop, but in practice
most of the ones I've seen only toggle the pin 5 side.  And ground is
supposed to be used to shield the output side, so the presence of that
shield wire tells you which is in and which is out.

The input side ...   Once I had the output side sussed out, I'd try to loop
it back on itself and see which orientation generated LED activity.
