I think the value of AES membership depends on where you live. In some places there has been a lot of people playing silly games or even trying to make political statements which was why I quit many years ago.

John, I understand the frustration of following a link only to find restricted access.

In this case, I'd like to point out that AES members do not have to pay any additional fee to access Aaron & Jennifer's paper. I logged in to my AES account and was able to download both the individual paper as well as the entire Journal that it's part of.

I highly recommend AES membership for anyone involved in audio. They've contributed significantly to improving the quality of audio electronics design. Much of what we know about how to work with audio is a result of the research shared by AES members throughout the industry over the decades. Of course, joining such an organization may not be of use to everyone, but for those it benefits, such papers come with the membership.

p.s. You can attend local chapter meetings of the AES for free, and can learn a great deal about audio. I also recommend looking at https://www.aes.org/sections/ to see whether there are any meetings near you. This might give you an idea of whether membership is something you'd be interested in.
