[sdiy] Roland JX-3p vca - noise

I have a kind of intermittent but often occurring issue with my jx3p
and was wondering if anyone else had experienced this. At times I get
a lot of distortion on the output of the jx - usually it goes away if
I turn the volume knob, change the level on the pg200 or mess with the
output jacks.  This isn't a typical dirty volume pot/jack sort of
sound, but an crackling and actual distortion of the signal.  The
right side of the output is very low in volume and doesn't quite work
right. Was wondering if anyone had any pointers on where to begin
trouble-shooting.  I've tested out the actual jacks themselves and
they seem electrically okay.
