[sdiy] Making neat holes in laminated front panel overlays... My way to do so..

Talking about neat holes.. just have a look at these pictures
of my way to do front panels using face heat laminated, laser printed
self-adhesive vinyle
placed on 1/16" aluminum and then punched with my "most standard diameters"
bits
for potentiometers, 1/4" Switchcraft jacks, Leds, switches, etc...

In Canada you can buy this table Press punch at:
http://www.busybeetools.com/products/ARBOR-PRESS-2-TON.html

For more details and discussions go to the april 2010 archive
and search for "My new 6 voices MIDI interface.. " post title..
Please note that some links stated in these posts don't work
anymore because some words have been modified in the complete path
but you'll find them starting here:

Good luck !

J-Pierre

Hi!

I see - so a different way.
I print on a normal paper and use a quite thick self adhesive hot laminate
foil.
You can get glossy and matte versions of that laminate.

I make the whole with the manual punch press sets as someone before already
showed us (can't remember the name).

You can see one of my units here:

Paul Maddox Gorf. There is no foil in the center part as the distances are
too small between the parts in this area.

Ciao
Peter

Nope, the label I use is a standard paper with an adhesive, just like Avery
8255. Never tried the laminates because, well... the 8255 was available for
free at the office (OK, I bought a replacement pack later on!).
As a bonus, the backing sheet from the label can be used for the PCBs: I
print the PCB with a laser printer and then transfer the toner to the PCB
using an iron. If you get the right temperature and pressure, and a good
toner, some very neat PCBs can be made this way.
