Running CMOS at 24V (Vdd-Vee) does work with some, but not all makes and may
seriously shorten the life of those that do even if the chip is not getting
warm (that'd mean some backwards biased diodes are already a bit into
breakdown). To be on the safe side, limit yourself to something like
+-7.5V, that leaves some headroom for temporary overvoltage, for instance
during power on/off transients. Or use a multiplexer that is specified for
higher voltages, like some of the DG series.
