[sdiy] favorite "magical" opamp?

Can anyone tell me the difference between the TL0XX series and the TL08XX? I
just looked at the datasheets and I don't see enough delta to warrant two
devices. What am I missing?

Subject: [sdiy] favorite "magical" opamp?

I use a lot of TL07XXX's

I dont really even question it in most cases unless I KNOW i need something
better, or unless a circuit doesn't work the way it should and I go off in
search of something that works.

(but even that switch is often just from a TLO7x to a TLO8x or a TLO6x.

Occasionally when reading an article or forum post, or when reading the daily
SDIY posts I come upon people touting one opamp as WARMER or MEATIER in some
situations.

SO....Looking though my collection of chips I am noticing that I don't have a
lot in the way of OLDER opamps. I have TONS AND TONS of 741' and 356's. A few
1458's and 4558's.
It sure would be fun to have more opamps to switch in and out of a circuit to be
able to change the characteristics.

SO...in the interest of having some fun doing A/B Tests and also in the interest
of inspiring some late night circuit design, I would really love to hear what
opamps you

think are vital to have in your collection and why.

Remember, the more character the better.

And character is a very subjective, so maybe explain why you like that amp, or
if there a few you like in different situations, maybe explain why.

THANKS!
